Where do you make the money?

Maxer has an amazing perspective on the world. He takes what I say quite literally.
His literal interpretation of the words and communication that you and I take for granted stuns me sometimes, but it's helped shape the clarity in which I communicate as well as helped me better understand how Maxer views the world and comprehends communication.
For example. One morning, not too long ago, I was racing out of the house early to get to the office in time for a 7:30 am meeting. With one foot outside the door and one inside I hear Maxer yelling, "Wait Dad, I'm going to work with you today. It's a school assignment--go to work with your Dad Day." This was a total surprise to me, his mother... and frankly to Maxer, as it probably just popped into his head when he woke up. Nonetheless, he grabbed breakfast on the run and off to work we went--together. Father and son, I was thrilled!
He was all squirmy in the car and then suddenly blurted out, "I always wondered how you made money! Now I get to see!" He covered a few vitally important questions like, "... is there food at your work? I hope there's a bathroom--will you show me where it is? What happens when I get bored Dad, hope I can leave when I want to?"
When we arrived in the office there where a number of greetings, after about the fourth intro, Maxer looked at me and said, "No more handshakes, no more looking people in the eye, I don't need to meet any more people."
As we entered my office he looked around, paced a little, and all of a sudden he had a very puzzled look on his face. He gazed up at me with confusion in his eyes and queried, "Dad, uh . . . well . . . tell me, where do you make the money? I don't see where the money's made!"
Very telling. All these years and he thought I went to work to print "the money."
